If not now, when?

Although this image was taken in Agadir, Morocco, I imagine life during the Savior’s time looked similar.

After watching The Chosen, and seeing the miraculous turn of events at the wedding feast, Jesus does something no host has ever done before — He waits to serve the best wine last.

Up until this moment, the miracles Jesus performed were private.

They were private because Jesus knew that as soon as He began to show who He truly was, word would get out. He knew as soon as His ministry became public, His death and everything in-between, would start to unfold.

There’s a reason why He is perhaps, a little hesitant.

He came to do the Father’s will, and He did, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t for Him because it was.

It was not yet His time, yet when seeing Mary, His mother, worried about the caterer and their careers, Jesus says, “Why are you telling me this? My time has not yet come.”

There’s a moment of silence.

Mary looks up at her Son and poses a question only a mother can ask, “If not now, when?”

It pierces Jesus and He’s moved with compassion.

Jesus smiles and looks upon her with grateful eyes.

Thomas, not yet a disciple, is worried. He is overseeing the food, yet He can’t quite comprehend how there could possibly be more wine if the vases were empty.

“I thought you had a solution?” Thomas says to Jesus skeptically.

“Keep watching,” is Jesus’s reply.

With the stone vases full of water, Jesus asks everyone to leave the room.

Slowly and methodically, Jesus approaches the vases and sighs deeply.

Looking up towards Heaven and then back down at His reflection in the water, Jesus says, “I’m ready.”

Moments later, Jesus looks up and runs His hands through the water turned wine.

Tears rolled down my cheek as I watched the exchange between Mary and Jesus after an announcement was made about the wine.

“Thank you,” she mouths to her Son.

Jesus smiles back.

This heartfelt moment is tender and inspiring, but what does it mean for us?

What does this miracle have to do with our lives?

Everything.

Think about it.

The fermentation process is bypassed and not only is the water transformed, it’s the best wine anyone has ever tasted.

All Jesus asked was for the servants to fill the vases with water. He met them where they were, and transformed the water into wine.

Transformations can happen in our lives if we give what we have to Jesus.

He can make us into something more — more than we could ever imagine.

If we don’t go to Jesus now, if we don’t trust Jesus now and if we don’t believe in Jesus now, when will we?

Like Jesus, we can take courage in His response… “I’m ready.”

Because if we don’t do it now, when will we?

As long as you have Jesus, everything will be okay.
